A Greek Orthodox Wedding

I loved Zoi and Vasilis’ wedding. I actually spent two days with them and their Greek family and friends as I also photographed their daughter Angelika’s Christeing the next day at the same Greek Orthodox church. I’ve never experienced a Greek Orthodox wedding or Christening, and it was absolutely fascinating. I loved it.

I met Zoi and her friends and family (quite a house-full) at her house in West Bridgford. They were all getting ready and having hair done by the talented Alison Jenner. A lot of super glamorous ladies in one house! Zoi’s mum was particularly glamorous and reminded me of Anne Bancroft. After bridal prepartaions, we all made our way to the Greek Orthodox Church in Nottingham and Zoi was met there by Vasilis who handed her the beautiful bouquet – made by Mrs Umbels. It is Greek tradition that the bride and groom walk into the church together. I rather liked this. Along with many other traditions. It was truly a wonderful experience to photograph it all. The bride and groom took communion and had to walk several times with their entourage around the alter.

Colwick Hall

After the ceremony was over, the whole wedding party made their way to Colwick Hall for a low key and relaxed wedding reception. The room was decked out beautifully with more of Mrs Umbels creations, and a wonderful cake. I took photos out at the front of Colwick Hall amongst the pretty pink and purple flowers.  Zoi looked absolutely stunning in her gorgeous two piece bridal gown. It was so delicate and pretty and she also had flowers in her hair. Zoi and Vasilis made such a handsome couple and I am in love with my couple portraits of the two of them. They were so natural and gorgeous in front of my camera.

The reception was pretty relaxed without the formality of speeches etc. I had loads of time for lots of informal group photos and pictures of the children running around. I also loved getting photographs of Zoi and Vasilis on the staircase at Colwick Hall. So beautiful.

I left them to it after dinner, as I would be seeing them again the following day for the Christening. Another super new cultural experience for me. What a wonderful two days to be Kathryn Edwards Photography. #ilovemyjob 🙂
